Internal Wall Insulation & Dry-Lining
Where external insulation is not possible — a protected facade, a wall on the boundary, or planning constraints — insulated slab fixed to the inside face of the wall achieves much of the same result, room by room.

How internal dry-lining works
Insulated plasterboard is fixed to the inside face of the external walls, taped and skimmed ready for decoration. Sockets, switches, radiators and skirting are removed and refitted, and window reveals are insulated to limit cold bridging at the openings.
Because it is done room by room, the house stays liveable throughout — which is why it suits occupied homes and phased budgets.
The trade-offs, honestly
Internal insulation takes a small amount of floor area from each room, roughly the thickness of the board. It also needs careful detailing at junctions, because any gap becomes a cold bridge where condensation can form.
Where you have a genuine choice between internal and external, external usually performs better. Internal wins when external is not an option.
Is your home suitable?
- Solid or hollow-block walls with no usable cavity
- External insulation ruled out by planning, boundary or appearance
- No unresolved damp or water ingress in the walls
- Rooms with enough space to lose a small amount of depth
Common questions
How much room does internal insulation take?
Typically a modest depth off each external wall. We give exact figures per room at the survey so you can see the effect before committing.
Can I have some rooms done and not others?
Yes. Phasing room by room is common and keeps the house usable, though whole-house treatment gives the best result.
Does dry-lining need redecorating afterwards?
Yes — the finished surface is skimmed plaster ready for painting. Decoration is not included unless agreed in the quote.
